VS Code
SmartSuite works with GitHub Copilot's agent mode in Visual Studio Code.
Using the command palette
-
Open the command palette and run MCP: Add Server.
-
Choose HTTP as the server type.
-
Enter the server URL:
https://app.smartsuite.com/v1/mcp -
Name the server
smartsuite, and choose whether to add it for your user (every workspace) or only the current workspace. -
Start the server when VS Code offers to. Allow it to sign in, then sign in to SmartSuite and choose which Workspaces Copilot may use and whether it can make changes.
Configuring it by file
To share SmartSuite with everyone who opens a project, add it to .vscode/mcp.json:
{
"servers": {
"smartsuite": {
"type": "http",
"url": "https://app.smartsuite.com/v1/mcp"
}
}
}
Each person authenticates with their own SmartSuite account the first time the server starts.
Using SmartSuite in chat
Open Copilot Chat, switch to Agent mode, and make sure the SmartSuite tools are selected in the tools picker. Then ask a question such as "What's assigned to me in SmartSuite?"
Changing or removing the connection
Run MCP: List Servers, select smartsuite, and stop or remove it. To change which Workspaces it covers or whether it can make changes, sign out of SmartSuite from VS Code's Accounts menu and start the server again.
VS Code connects from your own computer, so a Workspace with IP restrictions accepts it whenever you're on an allowed network.
