ChatGPT

Coming soon

The SmartSuite app for ChatGPT's app directory is coming soon. Until then, ChatGPT workspace admins can add SmartSuite as a custom MCP app in developer mode, as described below.

Before you start

  • Custom MCP apps are available on ChatGPT Business, Enterprise and Edu plans, on ChatGPT on the web.
  • Developer mode must be turned on, and only admins and owners can publish an app to the rest of the workspace. On Enterprise and Edu, admins can also grant developer mode to specific members.

See OpenAI's Developer mode and MCP apps in ChatGPT for the current plan details and menu locations.

Adding SmartSuite as a custom MCP app

  1. Turn on developer mode.
    • On Business, admins and owners turn it on for themselves under Settings → Apps → Advanced settings → Developer mode.
    • On Enterprise and Edu, an admin first allows it under Workspace Settings → Permissions & Roles → Connected Data. Members who have been granted access then turn it on under Settings → Apps → Advanced settings.
  2. Go to Settings → Apps → Create. Admins can also use Workspace settings → Apps → Create.
  3. Enter the app details:
    • Name: SmartSuite
    • MCP server URL: https://app.smartsuite.com/v1/mcp
    • Authentication: OAuth
  4. Click Scan Tools. When SmartSuite's sign-in page opens, sign in and choose the connection's scope: which Workspaces ChatGPT may use, and whether it can only read or can also make changes.
  5. When the scan finishes, click Create. The app appears under Settings → Apps with a Dev label.
  6. Open a new chat, select SmartSuite from the tools menu, and try a prompt such as "What's assigned to me in SmartSuite?"

Sharing the app with your workspace

When you've tested it, an admin or owner publishes it from Workspace settings → Apps → Drafts. Published apps appear to members in their Apps settings. Each member then connects with their own SmartSuite account, so each one sees only what their own Permissions allow.

On Enterprise and Edu, admins can also choose which groups can use the app and turn individual actions off before or after publishing. For example, you could turn off delete-records and update-sharing. See the Tools Reference for what each action does.

Changing or removing the connection

Manage or remove the connection from Settings → Apps in ChatGPT. To change which Workspaces it covers or whether it can make changes, disconnect SmartSuite and connect again.

IP restrictions

ChatGPT connects to SmartSuite from OpenAI's servers, not from your computer. If your Workspace has IP restrictions turned on, ChatGPT's requests are refused unless their addresses are allowed. See Controls.
