Other Clients

If your AI tool isn't listed, you can still connect it. Any MCP client that supports remote servers over Streamable HTTP and OAuth can use the SmartSuite MCP Server. The server is available to all customers on all plans.

Manual configuration

Follow your client's instructions for adding a remote MCP server, and point it at:

https://app.smartsuite.com/v1/mcp

Many clients read a JSON file with an mcpServers block. The SmartSuite entry usually looks like this:

{
"mcpServers": {
"smartsuite": {
"type": "http",
"url": "https://app.smartsuite.com/v1/mcp"
}
}
}

Where the file lives, and whether the type key is needed, varies by client. Check your client's documentation, or the client guides in this section.

Authentication

Clients authenticate with OAuth. The client registers itself with SmartSuite automatically through Dynamic Client Registration, so there is no client id or secret to configure. The first time it connects, the client opens SmartSuite's sign-in page, where you choose which Workspaces it may use and whether it can make changes.

There are no API keys or personal access tokens for the hosted server, and no static OAuth clients to register. See the MCP Server Overview for the technical details.

Clients without remote server support

A client that can only launch local MCP servers can reach SmartSuite through the open-source mcp-remote bridge, which runs locally and handles the OAuth sign-in:

{
"mcpServers": {
"smartsuite": {
"command": "npx",
"args": ["-y", "mcp-remote", "https://app.smartsuite.com/v1/mcp"]
}
}
}

mcp-remote is a third-party tool, not maintained by SmartSuite.

Open-source local server

SmartSuite also publishes an open-source MCP server that runs on your own machine and authenticates with a SmartSuite API key instead of OAuth. It's a separate product from the hosted server, with its own tools and its own access modes. It suits automated, scripted or server-side setups where nobody is present to sign in.

See SmartSuiteFoundry/smartsuite-mcp-server on GitHub for installation and configuration. The hosted server is the recommended way to connect an AI assistant.
